Whenever our family plans to travel to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, it's like the entire house before Christmas. We usually start packing like Baltimore's former rugby team. Under the cover of darkness, we loaded the vehicle with fishing gear, coolers, luggage, some snacks and some lemonade.
Even if it is only 7 hours drive from the Baltimore Washington area, we usually only need 10 hours to arrive. First, we have to pass the mixing bowl in Springfield, Virginia, which seems to be forever. There are also some outlet stores, my lovely wife just needs to stop and refill the shoes that all her women know. We also have our favorite place to eat, of course, without stopping the fireworks will not complete the journey. Our son will need fireworks along at least two different suppliers in the south of I-95. It's not the kind of thing that sits on the ground and burns out like a match, but something that can fly to the sky and illuminate our summer nights, such as the space shuttle at Cape Canaveral.
I am willing to endure the journey of buying shoes, fireworks and six other stops, which constitute our 10-hour trek, because by the end of the few days, we will finally reach one of my favorite resorts across the eastern coast, amazing Myrtle Beach.
The best way to start your day at Myrtle Beach is to stroll along the Atlantic coast. Myrtle Beach is divided into two areas, North Myrtle Beach and South Myrtle Beach, both of which have many adventures.
Did I say to the south? Well, the south side is the old side of Myrtle Beach, but new developments are always going on. One of the biggest attractions on the south side is the Pavilion Amusement Park, which celebrated the last season of 2006 but has not disappeared. The Pavilion Nostalgia Park now includes some popular rides and artifacts. Nostalgic Park is located on Broadway at the beach, which opened in the spring of 2007.
In the new nostalgic park, the Herschell-Spillman carousel, Kiddy teacup rides and Caterpillar rides are very active.
If you need more adventure, try the Family Kingdom Waterpark.
They are located at 300 Nanyang Avenue. The family kingdom also has an amusement park. Stop at the ice cream shop and pick up one or two spoons like a local, or check out South Carolina's largest garage sale on September 15, 2007, from 7 am to 12 noon. The auction was held at the Myrtle Beach Pavilion parking garage.
